White Mountain Road Club - Valley of the Sun Stage Race

 

The Valley of the Sun bike race is a three-day event in which professional and amateur road racing cyclists of different categories compete for cash and prizes. 

There will also be these special events: 

 

Kids Bike Rodeo

The Phoenix Police Department along with the SAFE KIDS Coalition of Maricopa County and the Landis/Trek amateur team will conduct a Bike Rodeo and Helmet Fitting clinic.

Lance Armstrong Olympic Race Series

 

Entering its 16th year in 2008, the Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic Race Series is a program designed by USA Cycling and endorsed by seven-time Tour de France winner and Olympic medalist Lance Armstrong and provides racing opportunities for junior and U23-aged athletes. Over the course of the last 15 years, the series has evolved into a nationally-recognized junior development program.

 

The Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic Race Series is part of USA Cycling’s athlete development pipeline and gives developing riders aged 15-22 a chance to earn an invitation to USA Cycling Regional Development Camps via a top-five placing in a series race.

 

Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic Race Series events will provide racing opportunities for boys and girls as young as 10 years old to 22-year-old men and women.

Beginning a 22-kilometer time trial, Joe Statt of Scottsdale takes off from the starting gate at the 16th annual Valley of the Sun John Earley Memorial Stage Race at Sun Valley Parkway and McDowell Road near Buckeye Friday.

 

A stage is held each day consisting of a time trial, a road race and a criterium. There are over 900 participants in 15 categories of amateur and professional riders, both men and women, ages 10 to over 60. The cyclists that have the lowest cumulative time from the three stages will win in their respective categories.
